Mahogany drive
I took a long Mahogany drive
through that part of my life
I thought I had left behind
Youthful indiscretions at the intersections
of too much wine, smoking the finest weed
Summer nights we spent camping
beneath the sycamore trees
Sleeping under that breeze
that helped us forget about
Term papers and tests
final exams and all the ways to
end up second best
No, in that night in that forest
We were better than all the dreams
of what our parents wanted us to be
We were free so long as the music
didn't end
Tomorrow we might be the future
But that night
We were friends
